There are many popular tools like Ahrefs, SemRush, and KWfinder that help you analyze the SERPs for a particular term. Using these tools one can find out the number of backlinks created on the top ranking sites, the DA, PA, age of the domain, etc.

You should choose a keyword that doesn’t have very high competition. You can search low or medium-difficulty KWs. And if the KWs are long-tail it can do wonders for you.

Make sure that the KWs have good search volume else it will be useless to put in efforts. You can use KWfinder for in-depth Keyword research. It also shows related KWs that you can use in the body of your content.
